When it comes to holding a tropical wedding, Maui is pretty much a no-brainer. The natural beauty of the Valley Isle stands second to none, and the hospitality of our residents and local kama’aina keep everyone coming back for more. Beach weddings have always been a popular choice, and have become even more so during the ongoing pandemic of the past year-plus. The sun, the sand, the ocean breezes at your back, what’s not to love? It’s the stuff that wedding dreams are made of: saying ‘I do’ to the love of your life, alone on a beach in paradise, with only the honu and the ocean bearing witness.
If that sounds too good to be true, then it’s definitely our pleasure to introduce you to Kirsten and Joe, who were Happily Maui’d in May at Pa’ako Beach, also known as Secret Cove! Would you believe that they were not only able to have their wedding in one of the world’s premier destinations, but that they had this prime location all to themselves?!
As we’ve shared in a previous blog about our favorite beach locations for your wedding, Secret Cove might be one of Maui’s worst-kept secrets, but it remains one of the island’s most-gorgeous attractions. Situated behind a rock wall in an otherwise-residential neighborhood, it lies on a beautiful pocket of sand and offers up a breathtaking view of both Molokini and Kaho’olawe in the distance, complete with stunning lava rock formations and a natural enclave for you to get Maui’d to your beloved.
Indeed, the only downside to this spectacular setting is that, well, the word is out! Not-so-Secret Cove is one of the island’s most popular attractions, and scores of tourists can be seen flocking to Makena to see it for themselves at nearly every time of day (or night). Having said that, Kirsten and Joe had been hoping to enjoy its splendor as the picture-perfect backdrop to their wedding, and decided to gather early in the morning in an effort to maximize their experience. Lo and behold, Pele was looking out for them, and they were treated to an exclusive beach wedding that they were able to have and enjoy all to themselves.
Our dear friend Fen was there to capture the moment, and we think that the photos speak for themselves: Kirsten and Joe enjoyed the experience of a lifetime together here on Maui, and tied the knot in the most romantic way possible.
